For Ron Scott, 2017 marks his 29th season as head baseball coach at Fresno City College. Following a distinguished prep coaching career, Scott succeeded the legendary Len Bourdet who retired following a successful 1988 season. Scott not only followed the California Community College Baseball Hall of Famer, he surpassed his total to become the winningest coach in FCC baseball history. Between them there are 1,609 FCC victories since 1958!
A community college baseball star at Canada College, Scott transferred to the University of Miami where he helped lead the Hurricanes to the College World Series championship game (Final Score: USC 7, Miami 4.) Scott was selected All-Tournament catcher.He also played on the USA baseball team that won the 1974 World Games for which he received a gold medal.
Scott received his bachelor’s degree from San Jose State and his master’s from Fresno State as well as his teaching credential.
He has two daughters, Amanda, 36, a four-time All-American softball player at Fresno State; and Courtney, 32, a two-time All-American catcher at the University of California, Berkeley. Both Scott sisters played on NCAA championship teams.
Amanda is in her third season as the head softball coach at Roosevelt University in Chicago and Courtney is in her fourth year as an assistant softball coach at Louisville.
Ron, his wife, Rebecca, and her sons, Parker and Kyle, reside in Fresno.
