MEN'S SOCCER RETURNS TO ACTION FOLLOWING MILESTONE VICTORY
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno City men's soccer team continues play against the Big 8 conference this afternoon when they play host to Cosumnes River College. The Rams, who remain undefeated this 2018 season, return to action following head coach Eric Solberg's 300th victory last week.
Fresno City (9-0-5; 3-0-0) enters play this week following their 1-0 victory over visiting San Joaquin Delta on Friday, in a matchup of Northern California's last two unbeaten teams. Both teams were held scoreless through the first half of play, as both teams made an effort to dominate possession and limit chances for their opponent. Things were much the same throughout the second half when the Rams would finally breakthrough with their first, and ultimately, deciding goal of the afternoon. Sophomore midfielder Matheus Araujo found the net off a Deqwan Sykes assist, putting Fresno City up for good and securing the Rams 1-0 victory.
The win was a memorable one for many reasons, most notably, being head coach Eric Solberg's 300th victory as head coach of the Fresno City men's soccer program. Solberg is in his 20th season at the helm of the Fresno City men's soccer program, winning 16 conference titles and advancing to the CCCAA State Championship playoffs all 20 seasons as a coach. The Rams are coming off back-to-back CCCAA State Championship appearances under Solberg's tutelage, and won the CCCAA State Championship last season.
Fresno City plays host to the Hawks of Cosumnes River College (6-4-4; 1-2-2 Big 8) this afternoon at 4 PM in a Big 8 conference crossover contest. The Rams will wrap up their Big 8-CVC crossover contest schedule this Friday on the road against Folsom Lake College (11-2-2; 3-1-1 Big 8) in a matchup of Top 10 teams. They'll return to conference play next week when they travel to take on the College of the Sequoias.
