MEN’S, WOMEN’S SOCCER LOOK TO CLAIM AT LEAST SHARE OF CVC TITLE TODAY AT HOME
FRESNO, Calif.- The Fresno City men’s and women’s soccer teams will both look to claim at least a share of the Central Valley Conference title today, when they play host to Taft in a doubleheader. The Fresno City men can claim the title outright with a victory, while the women will need another victory in their regular season finale on Friday to win the outright title, should they win today.
The Rams men sit atop the CVC with a two game lead over Taft, who lost the first game in the series against Fresno City, 2-1 at home on October 5th. The Fresno City women hold a one game lead over both Taft and Clovis, who are tied for second place in the CVC, with two losses apiece. The women will kickoff the doubleheader at 1 PM, with the men to follow at 3 PM.
Fresno City men’s soccer will look to stay undefeated this week, having closed the road portion of their CVC schedule last week with a 2-1 victory over West Hills Lemoore. The Rams remain undefeated in the CVC, and are 8-1-1 in their last ten matches, and 12-1-6 overall for the 2018 season. Today’s matchup will see the #2 and #3 ranked teams in the latest CCCSIA men’s soccer poll face off, as Taft (15-2-1; 4-1) remains the top ranked team in the North, followed by Fresno City.
The Fresno City women enter the week ranked #4 in the latest CCCSIA women’s soccer poll, with an overall record of 15-2-3, and a conference mark of 9-1. The Rams return home following a pair of dominant victories over Sequoias and Cerro Coso on the road last week. Fresno City shutout both opponents last week, defeating COS and Cerro Coso 7-0, and 8-0 respectively. They’ll close out the regular season on the road Friday, when they take on West Hills Lemoore.
