Men's Cross Country Wins CVC
Men’s Cross Country Team Takes Conference, Individual Championships
The FCC men’s cross country team earned top honors Tuesday (Oct. 24) at the Central Valley Conference Championships at Woodward Park.
The Rams took home the overall team championship, while FCC sophomore Isaac Oceguera was the individual CVC champion.
Coach Gary Bluth called it a gratifying victory because the team has faced adversity and setbacks throughout the season. Because of that, the Rams had been projected to finish second.
“However, on this day, they were all healthy and refused to be denied,” Bluth said of his runners. “Each man ran as hard as he could and their collective effort yielded a team championship.”
The Rams placed four runners in the top five, led by Oceguera and with teammate Lorenzo Cabellos right on his heels. FCC’s Isaiah Montion and Jackee Moua placed fourth and fifth overall to join Oceguera and Cabellos in earning All-Conference honors. Oceguera is the only sophomore in that group.
On the women’s side, the Rams placed second to the College of the Sequoias – one of the top teams in the state. The Rams were led by Maria Rodriguez, who placed fifth overall and also earned All-Conference honors.
Rodriguez has been a medalist at each of the Rams’ last three races, including a win at the Modesto JC Invitational.
