Fresno City Softball finishes strong despite the 2020 season being cut short
The Fresno City College Softball 2020 season was cut short due to the abrupt cancellation of all 2020 spring sports amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Fresno City College Softball 2020 season was cut short due to the abrupt cancellation of all 2020 spring sports amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prior to the season's cancellation, the Rams stood atop the Central Valley Conference standings with 5 wins, 1 loss, and 18 games left to play before playoffs. The Rams season came to an early close with an overall record of 11-10.
Collectively, the Rams had a team batting average of .344 and an on-base percentage of .412, racking up a total of 146 runs in just 21 games. According to the CCCAA, the Rams offense was ranked fourth the state of California for home runs with an impressive total of 19, and fifth in the state for doubles with 46.
Freshman Mary Mets got on base 20 out of 21 games this season. Mets had a 19-game hit streak and led the team in batting average with .462. Mets also led the Rams in on-base percentage with an OBP of .514. The season high for home runs was split between Mets, sophomore Emily Puente, and sophomore Teya Vincent each hitting four home runs on the season. Puente also led the team in RBI with a total of 16 runs batted in followed by Mets, and sophomore Taniya Maldonado with 14 RBI each.
The Rams pitching staff had a collective earned run average of 3.54, and delivered 57 strikeouts. Puente had a season high of 22 strikeouts in 31 innings pitched. Sophomore Brianah Stafford produced the least amount of runs amongst the pitching staff finishing with a 1.89 ERA.
On defense, the Rams accumulated a team fielding percentage of .939, 361 put outs, and 14 double plays. Mets and sophomore Elaine Caballero led the team in double plays acquiring 7 double plays each. Freshman Francia Sanchez, freshman Kyndyll Garrison, and freshman Pria Bun each led the team in a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000.
The California Community College Athletics Association declared that the the 2020 spring season of competition for all 9,500 student athletes affected by COVID-19 will be restored.
