Fresno City College women’s soccer defeated their counterparts from Bakersfield College 5-0 at home on Oct. 3. Another win for the Rams means that they will keep the undefeated season alive and most importantly that they will continue to be at the top of the national rankings.

FCC, the number two ranked team in the country, was playing home again after their last game at Reedley College where they defeated the tigers with an impressive 12-1. This time they faced Bakersfield College who was looking to give the Rams their first defeat of the season.

The game begun with FCC taking charge, controlling the midfield and not giving any opportunities for the visiting team to make any attempts on goal.

Just before the 13th minute mark, the game finally opened up thanks to midfielder Jasmine Garibay who scored an unassisted goal.

FCC’s dominance was clear and the second goal seem to be getting closer and closer for the Rams. With every advance of the ball inside the box FCC looked like they could score with ease, but the ball just seem to miss the target.

The ball finally found the net again in the 17th minute and again thanks to Garibay who was assisted by forward Raina Wristen.

The onslaught by the Rams continued, and this time it was defender Alyssa Damian who took a shot that found the net in the 20th minute of the game. Damian was assisted by leftwing Sophia Zertuche.

With three goals down Bakersfield needed to do something so that the game didn’t get away from them, but every attack was meet by FCC’s impregnable defense. It wasn’t until the 22nd minute that Bakersfield finally got an attempt on goal, but the ball was wide of the mark.

For the remainder of the half, FCC continue to attack Bakersfield’s defense from all sides, but the shots just seemed to miss the mark. By the 30th minute of the first half, FCC made some changes in the offense and so the game became much more competitive.

The first half of the game ended with the score in FCC’s favor 3-0.

In the second half, FCC continued with the same intensity they showed in the first half of the game. Within five minutes of the second half, FCC found the goal again thanks to forward Ashtyn Bracamonte.

With a lead of 4-0, FCC decided to make more changes in the game, but still they controlled every aspect of the match. Bakersfield goalie Taylor Serrano became a major factor in the game’s second half by making some great saves and keeping FCC from another goal.

Serrano’s attempts at keeping the Rams from another goal were valiant, but the attack was too much and she conceded another goal. That goal was thanks to Garibay who assisted Wristen and scored the game’s fifth and final goal.

The final score was 5-0, giving FCC it’s 12th win of the season and keeping the dream of a national title alive.

“It’s fun to watch this team play,” said Head Coach Oliver Germond. “Our speed and our execution are really good. It’s a long season, but we got to make sure we are improving every game. Our concern is not what the score is or who we’re playing, but to make sure we are getting better.”
