Rams’ Cervantes Nabs National Third-Team Volleyball All-America Honors
Women's volleyball standout Makayla Cervantes has been named a third-team All-American – the first Fresno City College team member to land the national honor since 2012.
The American Volleyball Coaches Association on Friday (Dec. 8) announced the players chosen for the two-year college Women's Volleyball All-America Teams. This is the first year that the association has named three All-America teams.
Cervantes, a sophomore and outside hitter, has been a key part of the Rams' volleyball success over the past two years. This season, she averaged 3.01 kills per set and 4.56 digs per set on a 24-6 team that won the Central Valley Conference with a 16-0 record.
"Our program is proud of Makayla's honor and recognition that is reflective of her hard work and skill sets," said head coach Kieran Roblee. "This honor is surrounded by past and current teammates that have been included in Makayla's experience at FCC.
"Fresno City volleyball is excited to see where her journey will continue -- and we get to add her to our great alumni legacy."
Cervantes also was named to the association's watch list in September – one of only 11 players nationally to earn that recognition.
