GONZALEZ NAMED TO PRESEASON NATIONAL WATCH LIST
Sophomore named "Player to Watch" by the AVCA.
Coming off a freshman campaign which included an appearance in the CCCAA State Championship, sophomore Marina Gonzalez has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as a Two-Year "College Player to Watch" for 2019. Gonzalez is only one of two players in the CCCAA, and one of only 10 nationally, to earn this preseason honor.
"We appreciate the AVCA and their help in promoting Two-Year College athletes and the exposure it gives to our players," said Paula Wiedemann, chair of the AVCA Two-Year College Head Coaches Committee, through a press release earlier today. "These players made an impact as freshmen and are definitely ones to keep an eye on this season."
The former Clovis North standout was named to the Central Valley Conference First-Team last season following a year where she appeared in 32 matches, starting all but two. She also led the team in kills throughout the postseason, helping to lead the Rams to the CCCAA State Championship match, while being named to the CCCAA State Championship All-Tournament Team. Gonzalez returns as one of eight sophomores to a loaded Rams roster with CCCAA State Championship aspirations. Fresno City's women's volleyball team will make their 2019 season debut at the end of the month, when they head to Sacramento to take on American River College.
