Rams’ playoff run ends, marking retirement of coach Tony Caviglia
The Fresno City College football season ended Saturday with a 34-13 loss to top-seeded San Mateo in the NorCal regional semifinals, marking the conclusion of Tony Caviglia's storied tenure as Rams head coach.
Caviglia, who announced before the season that he would retire after this year, began his head coaching career at Fresno City in 1999. The Rams had entered the postseason on a hot streak, winning five straight games before falling to the Bulldogs.
Fresno City's only lead came late in the first quarter when Bowe Farmer hauled in a 69-yard touchdown pass from Ya'J Vance, giving the Rams a 6-3 advantage with 4:50 remaining.
However, San Mateo quickly took control and never looked back, outgaining the Rams 446-200.
Caviglia retires with a record of 202-83 at Fresno City, and 224-92 overall.
