2022 Rams Softball Preview

The Fresno City College softball team opens up their 2022 season next week with some key returners and a lot of new faces. The Rams lost two All-State contributors in Jazmine Castaneda (Cap Baptist) and Mary Mets (CSU Monterey Bay), but brought in several new faces that will help the Rams compete for back-to-back CVC Championships.

Returners

The Rams return three 1st Team All-CVC performers from last year that will again be key to repeating as CVC champions this year. Sophomore Amber Aguilar will return to the Rams outfield and lineup where she hit .447 and was a catalyst at the top of the order. Sophomore Alayna Munoz returns and hopes to build on last season where she hit .389, hit 5 homeruns, and had 25 RBI. She also looks to fill big innings in the circle this year for the Rams. Sophomore Isabel Gomez (.619) returns to an improved Rams infield where she played three different positions last year.

Sophomore returners Ati Aguilar and Olivia Armstrong look to provide depth to the Rams outfield this year in addition to their speed on the bases. Sophomore Danyelle Renteria returns to the Rams infield after playing stellar defense at the hot corner last year. Sophomore Sierra Cofield is back and will see time behind the plate as well as in the outfield this year.

Despite the fact that we lost two huge contributors, says third-year head Coach Haley Janzer, We return some very valuable pieces to this 2022 team. We have incredible sophomore leaders who have shown our newcomers what it means to be a Ram on and off the field. I am so proud of what these sophomores accomplished last year and look forward to what they will help us accomplish this season.?

Newcomers

The Rams brought in 12 newcomers that will look to contribute this spring. Fresno Citys infield got deeper with Jaclyn Smith (Liberty-Madera HS), Destyne White (Clovis West HS), Brianna Duncan (Immanuel HS/San Diego Chirstian), Marissa Fondtain (Buchanan HS), and Marissa Cruz (Hanford HS). The improved Rams outfield added newcomers Macey Grigsby (Clovis HS), Sophia Mares (Sanger HS), Maliyah Cerda (Selma HS), and Madison Arnold (Clovis HS). Stephanie Castro (Reedley HS) and Isabel Rodriguez (McClane HS) will see significant innings in the circle this spring, and Lina Sanchez (Clovis North HS) will see time behind the plate for the Rams.

We are so fortunate to have brought in some extremely talented athletes who will have an immediate impact, says Coach Janzer. We got better on defense, and we certainly improved offensively with our newcomers. These new Rams are great athletes, but more importantly, they are great people of character who fit into our Fresno City College Ram Softball Culture! We are so happy to have them.?
