2016 – 2017 Season Recap
The 2016 – 2017 season had its ups and downs. Overall, the team was extremely enjoyable to coach, and I was very happy with our overall work ethic. All season long we talked about getting into a position to give us the best chance of making it to the State Tournament. Going into the season I felt we had all the pieces to not only get to the State Tournament, but I thought we had a very realistic chance to win the whole thing. We had an excellent combination of big kids to go along with some very good guards. We also had excellent leadership heading into the season. But, the one thing you can’t account for is injuries. Unfortunately, our team had three players tear their ACL’s in the pre-season. All three players played a vital role to our overall success. Without them, our numbers dropped and we had to make adjustments in that we only had nine healthy bodies.
We played a very tough schedule, in which we went 23 – 9 heading into the playoffs. I felt we had opportunities to win a few more games, but it really didn’t hurt us heading into the playoffs. Unfortunately, we came up against a team that caused us match-up problems combined with the fact that I thought they played very well against us. It wasn’t so much that I thought we played poorly, because I actually felt we played well enough to win. But, it wasn’t meant to be. Not getting to the State Tournament is always disappointing for our players. They work so hard throughout the year, that as a coach, you always want your players to end the season on a positive note. But, our team had a lot to be proud of.
They accomplished the following:
- 23 – 9 Overall Record
- 10 – 2 Conference Record
