The Fresno City Rams took on Taft College at Fresno City College Gymnasium on Wednesday, January 17. The Cougars win the tipoff but the Rams take an early leading score with five minutes left to play.

The Rams defended strong and held The Cougars to very few points. After every scoring shot the gym erupts cheering as the floor and building begin to rattle.

As the first quarter came to a finish The Rams led the Cougars 21-13.

With a slow start for The Cougars, they began to make plays and scored some buckets. The Rams gained more momentum and started to pull away with the lead in the 2nd quarter 29-13.

With the half coming to an end, the Rams lead The Cougars 40-23.

Head Coach Alex Fletcher stated, “This season has been a lot of fun, if we focus on what we do and keep our standards high then the winning takes care of itself.”

The second half began and the Cougars were struggling. Turnover after turnover for the Cougars caused their head coach to look more and more frustrated with his team.
The Rams led 71-37 after three quarters.

During the fourth quarter, the Rams went on to rally and blew The Cougars out by 50 points with the final score of 101-51. The Rams were fired up with everyone celebrating as the buzzer hit zero.

The Rams shot 40 percent from the 3-point line, with 40 rebounds, and five players with more than 10 points according to the FCC Athletics page.

After the win, Coach Fletcher said he loves what this organization can do for his players by creating more opportunities, it’s what this college is all about.

“All of our sophomores got scholarships last year to continue playing basketball which is a big part of what we do here at Fresno City College,” Fletcher said.

The Rams are now 15-4 on the season with their next home game on Jan. 24 against West-Hills Lemoore College.
