Fresno City College
CVC Championship in sight for the Rams Softball Team
May 12, 2021

The Fresno City College Softball Rams collected two victories Tuesday at Reedley College by the scores of 17-7 and 11-3. The two wins pushed the Rams winning streak to 12 games including a 10-0 record in Central Valley Conference play.

In game one, the Rams pounded out 24 hits in route to scoring 17 runs. Each of the nine starters collected at least one hit. Mary Mets and Jazmine Castaneda finished with three hits apiece, and Amber Aguilar, Isabel Gomez and Alayna Munoz collected four hit games. Munoz hit her third home run of the season and collected her first win of the season in the circle.

In game two, the Rams offense was kept off balance for the first four innings. They exploded for five runs in the 5th inning, and Munoz hit her second home run of the day in the Rams, four run 6th inning. Jada Gallagher, Sierra Cofield and Isabel Gomez finished with three hits each. Mary Mets ran her hitting streak to 12 games, and Fran Sanchez collected her first multi-hit game of the season. Sophomore Kyndyll Garrison had another strong start in the circle before handing the ball off to Jazmine Casaneda who closed the door with 4 strikeouts in the last three innings.

"It was great to see our offense erupt like they are capable of!" said Head Coach Haley Janzer. "39 hits in a doubleheader says a ton about the work our hitters have put in this season. I'm also very proud of our pitchers who filled up the zone all day. We had all three of our pitchers (Munoz, Garrison, and Castaneda) contribute to our two wins today. But I'm most proud of our dugout. They were in it from the first pitch to the last pitch. They are the heartbeat of this team!"

'Whoever is hitting knows the dugout is behind them 100%," says Freshman infielder Danyelle Renteria. "The last thing you want is to go into the box with no support behind you because then you lose confidence in yourself. You think you're alone and that is the worst feeling. Cheering for our team in the dugout and being there for each other through the good and bad has made this season so much fun and this team so special."

FCC heads to the coast this weekend for two games at Monterey Peninsula College before returning home for "Sophomore Day" against COS next Tuesday May 18th. The Lady Rams are up two games on COS with six games to play.

Rams home games allow fans at 10% capacity. Masks and social distancing are expected by fans attending home games this season.
