The Fresno City College women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak Friday (9/22) with a 3-0 home win over Lake Tahoe Community College.
The Rams' record now stands at 9-0-0, including a win earlier this week against Cerritos College – the top-ranked team in the country. Fresno City College went into that match ranked 7th by the United Soccer Coaches Association.
In the shutout Friday against Lake Tahoe, the Rams posted their first goal in the fourth minute. Jasmine Garibay scored on an assist from Sophia Zertuche and later in the first half, Taylor Alkire scored on an assist from Gabby Watson.
The Rams closed out the scoring with a late second half goal by Cassie Sandoval off an assist from Tori Coles. Goalkeeper Riana Castaneda had five saves.
Head Coach Oliver Germond was slightly concerned about a letdown Friday following the team's big victory over Cerritos. But the Rams played well and did the job.
"I was happy for our team to play at home and be able to get rest this weekend after all the traveling we have done recently," Germond said. Six of the Rams' first nine games were on the road, including Cerritos.
The team begins conference play Tuesday in a home match against Taft College.
