FCC Volleyball Player Given Early Season Recognition
Cervantes added to prestigious American Volleyball Coaches Association watch list
Fresno City College's Makayla Cervantes has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association watch list – one of only 11 two-year college players nationally to earn that recognition.
Cervantes is an outside hitter who played a critical role on last year's California State Championship team and also was named to the all-tournament team. Last season, she recorded 3.03 digs per set and was responsible for 2.6 points per set.
Last year's Rams dropped only 9 sets in a 30-1 season, and Head Coach Kieran Roblee noted that Cervantes' statistics may have been different if the team had played more sets.
"Our program is ecstatic for the recognition Makayla has received at this national level," Roblee said. "It is representative of her hard work, her past and current teammates' hard work and the tradition of Fresno City College volleyball."
Cervantes is an "unassuming OH with her strong prowess on the first contact ball – she keeps us in system," Roblee said in the association's publication. "She has a tremendous read on the game and that allows her to achieve excellence."
