Women’s Soccer Rises to Top
FCC Women’s Soccer Wins CVC Conference, Ranked #1 in National Poll
The Fresno City College women’s soccer team is ranked #1 in the country in the final national regular season poll of the year.
The team, which also sits atop the state rankings, grabbed the #1 spot in the Nov. 7 poll by the United Soccer Coaches. The Rams (20-0-1) won the Central Valley Conference and now are preparing for next month’s state championships.
“It’s an honor to be ranked nationally and a reflection of the hard work from our amazing young ladies,” said Oliver Germond, head women’s soccer coach.
“However, we realize it’s just a ranking and our focus is to continue to improve to be prepared for the high level of competition in the state playoffs.”
The Rams entered the year ranked #14 in the national preseason poll, and from there climbed steadily toward the top. A road win over #1 ranked Cerritos College in September pushed FCC’s rating up to #2 in the poll.
The Rams stayed in the #2 slot until the final rankings, when they took over the top spot from Folsom Lake College.
